FAKED INJURIES TO CLAIM
INSURANCE

A foreign worker, Selva (not his real name) devises a plan to make a fortune through a false insurance claim. With this amount, he would be able to leave for his home country and retire permanently. His plan was foiled after our agency took up the case for our client, a maintenance contractor with Sembawang Shipyard.

Selva's plan involved injuring his leg and thereafter claiming that he had difficulty in walking. His company doctor gave him 3 days medical leave. The following day, Selva consulted a private specialist clinic and received 120 days of hospitalisation leave.

To register his claim for compensation, he appeared in crutches at the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) with a friend. Thereafter, our operatives trailed him from MOM to a coffeeshop some distance away. From the coffeeshop onwards, Selva was observed that he no longer required the use of his crutches.

Based on our video recordings and investigation report, the degree of injuries sustained by Selva became questionable. The lawyers for the insurance company managed to discredit Selva and his claim was subsequently withdrawn.
